Terroir

Within the 19 ha Domaine Rochevine, we have selected 6 plots totalling 2.6 ha, at an altitude of 150–300 m. The dramatic south-east facing granitic slopes make for perfect drainage of rainwater and excellent ripeness for the grapes.

Vinification

Cold skin-contact maceration. Yeasting of the vats after 4 days. Depending on the density, punch-down and pump-over several times a day, with a maximum alcoholic fermentation temperature of 26°c à 28°c.
Total maceration duration: 4–5 weeks
Malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels (origin: Allier, central France, and Vosges) with regular stirring, then maturing for 12 months in barrels.

Serve whith

Recommended with red meat or game. A perfect accompaniment to matured cheeses as well.

Service

Serving temperature : 16 à 18°C after decanting if possible for an hour.
To be consumed ideally after 2–3 years in the bottle. 7–10 years maturing potential.

Medals and comments

GILBERT & GAILLARD 2015: NOTE 95/100
SAINT-JOSEPH RED CŒUR DE ROCHEVINE 2011
Attractive purple colour. Deep, nicely clean nose, red berry fruits, spices, mineral dimensions. Remarkably balanced on the palate, full-bodied, well-structured, polished, fresh, full of fruit, deliciously mineral. A great success.

HACHETTE WINE GUIDE 2013
SAINT-JOSEPH RED CŒUR DE ROCHEVINE 2010
A "Favourite" in the Hachette Guide 2013
The first vintage of this top-class wine tops the bill. This wine, on 2.6 ha of selected plots within the Domaine de Rochevine, is born on a very steep south-east-facing slope. Its bouquet, rich and complex, does not hide the 18 months in barrels, but nothing here is overpowering, the tone is also set by fine floral nuances and great freshness. Still fresh, powerful, and elegant, the palate offers the same balance between varietal notes (fruit, violet) and tertiary aromas, backed by velvety tannins. Already devilishly charming, this 2010 has everything it takes to keep well for four or five years.
